Last week, Tina attended IBM’s The Way We Work event and it was chock-full of awesome insights into Generation Y. After almost two decades of BuzzMG collecting research and insights into the Millennial generation, it’s difficult for our team to not appreciate the great work that IBM did with this study! Here’s a sneak peek into a few of their stats:
50% of the U.S. workforce will be Millennials by 2020… and it’ll be 75% by 2030.
38% of Millennials cannot go ten minutes without checking their smartphones.
97% of surveyed Millennials agree that they are more digitally savvy than those in other generations.
…but what’s more, IBM also looked into Generation X and the Baby Boomer generation to get a sense of the differences and similarities that span these three seemingly distinct demographics. They found out that these groups of individuals are not as different as they seem.
For instance, take a look at the workplace. IBM’s study revealed that Millennials’ career goals and expectations are not that different from their predecessors’. Consider the fact that 42% of Millennials would leave their current job for another offering more money and a more innovative environment and 47% of Generation X would do the same. Also consider the fact that 60% of Millennials do not think that their organization effectively addresses the customer experience, and 70% of Baby Boomers believe the same.
Fascinating, right? We look forward to more awesome studies from IBM in the near future!
