Buzzspotting in...London!

While Tina and I were nearing the end of our very enjoyable Virgin Atlantic flight (after seeing Before Sunrise twice…) the giddiness started to kick in. This would be my third return to London, since living there for a semester as a student in 2000 and Tina’s first London experience so I was determined to show her as much as possible in our four-day visit. After a run-in with an anti-social driver and a scratched door confrontation from Heathrow, we welcomed the warm lighting, tranquil surroundings, pink decor and pleasant smile of the receptionist awaiting our arrival at MyHotel: Chelsea. Located in the heart of uber-fashionable Brompton Cross, this boutique style hotel is decideably more “girlie” – just like their PR Manager Nadine promised, in comparison to their counterpart in Bloombury. Each of the 45 bedrooms have a minimalist feel with a playful decadence, equipped with wi-fi and plasma screen TV/DVD/CD players. With the addition of their jinja spa, library and MyBar, it is no wonder MyHotel: Chelsea was voted one of the 50 coolest new hotels (on the planet) in Conde Nast Traveller’s HOT List in 2003!
Boots
Uggs are still holding on but there are many other styles to choose from - slouchy boots, cowboy boots, Mukluks, Moon Boots, shearling / suede heeled boots, wild graphic or high-heeled rainboots. These boots are meant to be seen so instead of hiding under pant legs, they will become a focal point of many women's attire. Skinny-legged denim will be tucked into leather high-heeled boots or into slouchy, comfy boots for a more bohemian look. Boots will also be seen with multi-hued or textured tights, paired with skirts of all types.
Sparkle & Shine
Break out the spotlight! Sequins are here again. From embellishments on handbags, (ex: the European IT Pinko tote) to subtle details on cardigans to all over-sequined skirts. In London, fashion scarves used around the neck or as a belt were covered with gold, silver or multi-colored sequins on one side, velour on the other.
Film
Fur wraps with ribbon closures, fur-trimmed accessories and updated sleek fitted jackets in fur or faux fur in all colors were seen all over the streets of London! This is not the big-shouldered fur coats of the 80's. These fashion-forward styles will be embraced by women of all ages (much to PETA's dismay...)
Poppy Appeal
Everywhere you look in Britain, there are poppies sprouting from men's and women's lapels. The Royal British Legion sells poppies to raise money for the ex-service community in England. Their campaign is present on the tube, on the streets and a major part of London's most fashionable set's attire. Keep your eye out for them on newscasters for the BBC and CNN.
SUSSED Girls
Elle Girl UK has branded their conscious and fashionably hip readers SUSSED girls - Spirited, Uncompromising, Stylish, Sassy, Expressive and Discerning. These young women who tend to fall between high school and college have a fierce confidence and they know how to express themselves through their own thoughts, personality and style. Between England's high-street fashion and their eye for vintage finds, these girls own their look, their bodies and their minds.
